Quarantine period. Short-time working. No events. Already played through every current AAA title. What to do when coronavirus boredom strikes again? Mupen64++ is the N64 alternative to the online LAN party with PC games from our Radmin-Guide. The software allows you to play N64 games online – with up to 4 players. What sounds simple at first is technically quite impressive due to the N64’s lack of a network interface.
Note:
The use of so-called „roms“ for emulators is a legal gray area. Please only use roms of games that you own. Aytee.de offers no support for the procurement of roms and assumes no liability for damages resulting from the procurement.
Installation & configuration
Of course you need the emulator first.
After installing the emulator and running it, use Options / Settings under Directoris to specify the path where your game roms are stored.

After clicking on File / Refresh ROM List, you will see your games in the start view.
Now you have to define your settings for the controller under Options / Input Settings. As the N64 controller is relatively complex and has many buttons available, it is advisable to use a USB controller, as the keyboard controls can otherwise be quite confusing. I personally use a €5 controller* from Aliexpress. The controller was recognized without any problems and can also be used in Mupen64++. However, the software requires a restart for recognition if you have connected the controller while the software is open.
Online gaming
You can now start the game directly from the home screen if you only want to play alone. To use the multiplayer, you must open the server list via Utilities / Supra Client
.

There you select a server that is free. Make sure that each player has selected the same connection type so that the connection works well. With today’s internet connections, I recommend simply setting this to LAN.
After clicking on Connect you are connected to the server. One player now clicks on „Create new game“ and selects the corresponding entry from their game list. The other players can now join the corresponding game using the Join button.
Click on „Start game“ to start the game for all players who have joined. Depending on the game, server and connection quality, it may take a different amount of time to start the game. If the game starts without any further messages, all players are connected and should be able to play as usual on the console without any problems.
Note:Some games do not work in multiplayer mode. This may be caused by the emulator or the game itself. In our test, we were able to play Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. without any problems, but Pokemon Stadium 2 did not work.
